Kamakura, Japan
While visiting Tokyo on a recent trip, we spent a day exploring shrines and just walking the streets in Kamakura. I love to see how and where people live.
Japan is amazingly clean. Walking the neighborhoods always reveals interesting things that inspire me to draw. I have a preference for the older small houses and working shops with their various components of pipes, heaters, and other aspects that are somewhat mysterious to me. I don’t know what it all is – air conditioners, fans, ducting, all kinds of things that make it seem a bit like a cacophony of the built environment. Perfect for sketching.
